Mountain View, California, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, is home to some of the biggest and most recognized tech, software, and IT companies in the world. The most obvious one is the search engine monopoly Google. Google's massive campus in Mountain View includes more than a dozen buildings and over 7,000 employees but they are not the only game in town. In this post we'll cover the largest tech employers in Mountain View as well as up-and-coming startups that call Mountain View home.

Largest companies headquartered in Mountain View
The largest company in Mountain View is unsurprisingly Google, founded way back in 1998. It has around 100,000 employees globally. They build a search engine, email services, cloud hosting, maps, advertising and analytics services and generally have their fingers in a lot of pies of the American economy.
Next largest is Intuit, founded by two gentlemen back in 1983. Today the company has about 13,000 employees globally and builds financial and tax preparation software for individuals, small businesses, and accountants.
There are two online education behemoths headquartered in Mountain View too. Udacity, founded in 2011, has about 4,000 employees. Coursera, founded in 2012, has about 1,000 employees. Both offer massive open online courses (MOOCs for those old enough to remember the hype) in fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, programming, business and the arts.
Elastic is another large tech company headquartered in Mountain View. They build products for developers and enterprise companies. Specifically they offer open source search, logging, and analytics products, including Elasticsearch and Kibana. They were founded in 2012 and have over 2,000 employees.
SentinelOne, founded in 2013, has about 1,000 employees. They build cybersecurity products and say that "the future of cybersecurity is autonomous". The company looks to be at the intersection of web security and AI.
Quora was founded in 2009 by early CTO of Facebook Adam D'Angelo who still acts as the company's CEO. It has over 200 employees so is considerably smaller than some of the above companies. For those not in the know Quora is a question-and-answer website where users can ask and answer questions on a wide range of topics.
Lacework, was founded more recently in 2015 and has over 200 employees. They also offer cloud security solutions though seem to be more in the security compliance space. From their website it seems they're very into "cloud security".

Inworld AI, founded just after the pandemic in 2020 is a startup that focuses on developing immersive realities and Metaverse experiences. They're backed by Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund and, you guessed it, Meta.
Signal Technology Foundation, founded in 2019, is working to develop "open source privacy technology that protects free expression and enables secure global communication". It operates on $50,000 from it's co-founder Brian Acton.
Relyance AI, founded in 2018, is a startup that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to help businesses manage user privacy and data governance. It's backed by Menlo Ventures and Unusual Ventures, among others. It's one of the few companies on this list that has a woman co-founder.
Isovalent, founded in 2019, raised a $29 million Series A from Andreessen Horowitz and a Series B a few months ago. They focus on developing advanced software and tools for businesses.
