Root provides Container image vulnerability remediation and patching management as a service to our users. Our product provides users with remediation plans for their images, using several strategies to upgrade and, where necessary, patch their images using our proprietary set of security patches.
Job Description:
We're looking for a Container Researcher to join our dynamic team in Tel Aviv. In this role, you'll take ownership of helping us deepen our in-product knowledge around handling our users' Containers and leading research that will improve and expand our feature set. You will be a leading voice in our technical decision-making and help pose and answer complex technical hypotheses in the Container domain. If you're a problem-solver with technical expertise in software and security, we'd love to meet you.
Responsibilities:
- Providing subject matter expertise in areas of building, hosting and patching Container images.
- Researching new methodologies for Image Remediation, both deepening our patching and rebasing abilities and expanding our portfolio of remediation strategies.
- Creating PoCs of new features and capabilities, and working with the wider Engineering team to productionize them.
- Responding to new use cases we identify in our users' Images, and helping to provide solutions.
- Providing guidance to our Patch Creation team to enable them to expand their ability to create working patches to additional technical use cases.
- Staying up to date on technical developments and innovations in the field.
Requirements:
- At least 7 years of industry experience in Engineering or tech heavy DevOps type roles
- Proven hands-on experience with containerized environments and microservices; Docker and Kubernetes - a must.
- In-depth knowledge of Linux Package Management and Image Management across a variety of Distros (Debian, Ubuntu, RedHat, Alpine etc) and Container Repositories (Docker Hub, AWS ECR, Quay.io, etc).
- In-depth knowledge of build/release systems, CI/CD pipelines and build environments.
- Expert knowledge of Docker image construction, strongly emphasizing Dockerfile best practices and composition, optimizing multi-stage builds, and minimizing image size through efficient layer management.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in Docker images, including debugging Docker layer problems, optimizing filesystem usage within containers, and diagnosing issues related to Docker’s storage architecture.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Docker internals, including deep knowledge of container image construction, image layering, and runtime operations.
- Passionate about researching solutions to new problems.
- Experience developing containerized applications.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, effectively conveying complex technical concepts.
We'd especially like to hear from you if you have:
- Background in application security, container security, DevSecOps, or similar, with a keen understanding of security best practices
- Experience working with remotely located teams as well as in-office teams.
Our Values:
- Teamwork and shared responsibility for our work
- Caring deeply about others and striving to understand different points of view and collaborate
- Striving for technical and product excellence and working quickly and iteratively to achieve our goals
- Flexibility and adaptation to challenges and opportunities
