Role Description
Form Energy’s iron-air battery storage technology is ready to leave the lab and be deployed in the field—the missing link is our ability to manufacture our battery systems at scale. To get there, we’re building factories for the 21st century, with software and data built in from the start. The Factory Software Engineering team is responsible for the suite of software products that safely and efficiently runs the factory floor, orchestrates the flow of material, enables data-driven process and quality improvement, and more.
As a manufacturing systems engineer and software engineer on the team, you’ll develop MES/SCADA systems in Ignition and Sepasoft alongside the development, bring-up, and scale-up of first-of-a-kind manufacturing lines. This is a unique opportunity to expand your software and manufacturing experience to make a direct impact on climate change as part of a fast-growing team.
We are seeking multiple candidates at a range of levels and from a range of backgrounds. Early career software engineers who are excited to learn about manufacturing are encouraged to apply. Candidates from controls engineering, process engineering, or operations engineering backgrounds who seek a career transition to software engineering are also encouraged to apply.
This opportunity is based out of Form Energy's Weirton, WV facility. Relocation assistance is available.
What you'll do:
Develop, deliver, and support MES capabilities for novel battery electrode and assembly lines
Collaborate with experienced software engineers, data engineers, controls engineers, process engineers, and quality engineers to develop your skills and develop a high-quality digital factory software ecosystem
Participate in rotating on-call shifts and on-the-floor support to ensure rapid problem-solving and efficient operations in a 24/7 factory
What you'll bring:
1-5 years experience in software development in a factory setting. Level depending on experience.
Fluency in Python, and motivation to learn new software frameworks, tools, and best practices
A pragmatic approach to problem-solving that blends good judgment, clear communication, dependable follow-through, creative use of resources, and joy in the process
Excitement to build a factory from scratch and deploy a new class of climate tech solution
Ability to work from the Weirton, WV region (relocation available)
Helpful but not required: SQL, git, AWS, Ignition, Sepasoft, non-Ignition MES systems, Siemens PLCs
