Product Manager, Evaluations Infrastructure - OpenAI

About the Role

The success of our AI products depends on robust, efficient evaluation. As a Product Manager for the Model Evaluation team, you will define and implement scalable evaluation frameworks that convert offline metrics into actionable insights. This role is ideal for a self-motivated, technically fluent PM with experience in ML evaluation or related fields like MLOps and DevTools. You’ll work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating across teams to drive improvements in model performance and safety.

This position is based in San Francisco, CA, with relocation assistance available.

In this role, you will:

• Define the MVP set of evaluations that align with our product and user goals.

• Design and implement scalable tools and processes for fast, efficient model evaluation.

• Develop standardized metrics and frameworks for model performance, safety, and trade-offs.

• Collaborate with research, engineering, and product teams to continuously enhance our evaluation strategies.

• Leverage data and user feedback to drive product improvements and inform strategic decisions.

You might thrive in this role if you:

• Have 5+ years of product management or related experience in AI/ML, MLOps, or DevTools.

• Hold a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Possess hands-on experience with ML evaluation methods, benchmarks, and building evaluation pipelines.

• Can translate high-level product goals into measurable metrics and actionable insights.

• Are comfortable discussing large-scale model architectures and trade-offs with technical teams.

• Excel at collaborating across diverse teams and communicating complex ideas clearly.

• Enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
